A new neighborhood of affordable, for-sale homes is planned on county-owned land in Oak Creek. The Oak Creek Common Council unanimously approved the subdivision, which Milwaukee County says will include up to 50 single-family homes near 9050 S. Annette Place.
What is planned
The project, which appears in Oak Creek plan records as Garden Medley Estates, is being led by Milwaukee County’s Department of Health and Human Services Housing Services. According to the county, the homes would be about 1,200 square feet and priced between $225,000 and $250,000. Buyers would need household incomes at or below 80% of the area median, about $80,000 a year for a family of three.
Funding includes $7 million in federal Congressionally Directed Spending secured by U.S. Sen. Tammy Baldwin, along with federal HOME dollars for home construction. The county says Oak Creek High School students will get trades training through the project.
Approvals so far
The Oak Creek Plan Commission recommended approval of a preliminary subdivision plat and official map amendment in February, and the Common Council approved the project this spring, according to the county’s April 13 announcement.
What happens next
The county said a development agreement with the city would be signed and a request for proposals for streets and utilities would follow, with home construction expected in 2027. Full build-out is likely to be phased over several years.
